Please refer to enclosed updated scratch sheets
Please read Scratch Sheet: for shipping legs and entries for Hanko and previous messages dated October 20 and December 21, 2006.
Owners planning to “go north” are advised to read the updated information below carefully:
1. Shipping Ft Lauderdale-West Italy in March: The eight owners committed for this lifting on a Spliethof cargo carrier are advised to contact their agent as soon as possible unless they have already done so. The two agents finally cooperating for this lifting are European Ocean Freight in New York (Uwe Kordts) and Mr Massimo Pierucci in Italy. ETD is March 13-28, hopefully early in that range. The port of discharge is yet to be determined (likely Livorno). The freight rate remains USD 19.500 per boat including commissions and including one rib, trailer or van. In the very unlikely case that a barge operation will be required in the port of discharge, this will be for the account of the Carrier.
2. Car carrier vs cargo carrier for vans and/or trailers. Despite Spliethof’s offer to ship one such unit free of charge along with our Farr40, I am inclined to ship my own vehicle (and possibly my trailer) in a guaranteed dry environment, which means a car carrier. We are in the process of investigating options in this regard. Owners interested in joining us to ship van and/or trailer from Brunswick-Baltimore range to Bremerhaven-Zeebrügge range early April are advised to provide contact details and length/width/height of units (meters/centimetres, not feet please!) to this office (ada.gislingrud@pactum.no) within February 23. We will then do our best to find a shipping opportunity and advise how to proceed.
3. Shipping from Savannah or Brunswick to Gothenburg in May: As you can see, three boats are committed and three are listed as “possible”. Confirmation is needed at this office before March 31st (ada.gislingrud@pactum.no). Instructions to owners how to proceed will be issued in first half of April. Boats will be rolled on and off the vessel on their own cradle. Freight rates indicated in message of October 20) assume that boats participate both at Hanko and in Copenhagen. Further, these rates are based upon cargo being presented “ready for shipment”, which means that owners will be advised to engage a shipping agent for paperwork. When the time comes in April, our recommendation will be to use European Ocean Freight (Uwe Kordts) (shipeof@aol.com) for this service. They are willing to assist and their fee structure looks reasonable. A suitable boatyard next to the point of discharge has been identified in Gothenburg where your boats can be stored until they are ready for the100 nm delivery on their own keel to Hanko. Cradles to remain in Gothenburg, then trucked to Neustadt or Copenhagen as the case may be.
4. Shipping from Baltimore to Gothenburg in May: Two boats are committed. Please proceed as described in item 3 above.
5. Charter vessel Olbia-Fredrikstad in June: 17 boats are listed as committed, one as possible. Any change of plans must be reported to this office not later than February 28 (ada.gislingrud@pactum.no). Those who remain silent will be considered as committed. Please send contact details and name of boat directly to the Carrier: spliethof@monaco.com attn. Brigitte/Peter. They will send you a booking confirmation, other instructions and an invoice in due course. ETD Olbia is June 10-17, hopefully early in that range. The freight rate indicated in the message to owners October 20 was “EUR 10.000, hopefully less”. The final rate agreed with Spliethof is EUR 9.000 per boat “water to water” provided at least 15 boats. A 28 ft rib will cost EUR 2200. We have assumed that vans and trailers will be moved up north on own wheels there is a convenient ferry service from North Sardinia to Toulon), but those who prefer to ship trailers on the Spliethhof carrier can probably do so.
6. Accomodation at Comwell Hanko Hotel: According to the enclosed sheet we have 26 boats confirmed, 2 probable and 6 possible. Quite an event! Invitations to the regatta at Hanko including notice of race were distributed to all owners racing in Key West. Stagg Yachts plans to send a package to all owners by ordinary mail shortly and a new set of invitations/notice of race will be included. Those who have not already done so should book accommodation directly with rune.solberg@comwellhanko.no. The various room options appear in the said invitation.
7. After Hanko: Captains to deliver boats on own keel to their next racing destination. It is envisaged that boats will remain on water throughout the event in Skagen and from there delivered on their own keel to Marstrand, Copenhagen or Neustadt as per their regatta schedule. Cradles arriving on the charter vessel from Olbia may be trucked from Fredrikstad to Copenhagen or Neustadt as the case may be.
8. Shipping of boats from Gothenburg to the USA in September after the Worlds: Clarification from owners is needed before the end of July. The freight rates given in the message dated October 20 are valid except that vans, trailers etc will come out lower while the boats might come out a little bit higher. As explained then, these rates apply only to boats having raced both at Hanko and in Copenhagen.
9. Return shipment to the Med after the worlds. Generally, intra Europe southbound cargo volume is lower than northbound cargo. Unlike the other shipping legs, the strategy we advise here is to wait and see if an attractive shipping opportunity turns up. Failing that, trucking to Southern France remains an alternative. A local shipbroker here is on watch for ocean shipping opportunities.
10. Leave the boat in Copenhagen after the Worlds? Some of the Nordic Yacht clubs are currently considering to offer attractive regatta events early 2008 before the boats head for the Med and/or the USA. Stay tuned! The return shipping arrangements (items 8&9 above) need not be determined before the end of July.
