Rolex Capri Sailing Week - 1st Series European Circuit English Version

Rolex Capri Sailing Week starts today with record number of entries.

Capri, Italy.  16th May 2007.

Racing is set to start today, 16th May in the 2007 edition of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week (15 – 19 May) which sees a record fleet of Farr 40, Swan 45, Mini Maxi and Comet craft assembled in the Gulf of Naples. Fifty-four racing yachts representing eleven nations are currently enrolled for this third edition of the  regatta, organized by the Yacht Club Capri in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, which will conclude on Saturday 19th May after four days of offshore racing.

The 16 competing Farr 40 craft will be breathing a sigh of relief after Vincenzo Onorato’s decision not to compete with his Mascalzone Latino following a gruelling America’s Cup campaign. With the 2006 winner out of the running, two-time Farr 40 World Champion Jim Richardson (USA) with his Barking Mad will be worth watching, as will Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban (AUS), runner up at the 2006 World Championship. Among the Italians, former World and European champion Massimo Mezzaroma (ITA) will be looking to establish a healthy scoreline in this event which represents the first leg of the Farr 40 European Circuit, while Gianluigi Serena’s Enfant Terrible will be confident in the skills of tactician Neapolitan Paolo Cian, fresh from his America’s Cup challenge with Team Shosholoza.
