Mascalzone shows class at Hankø After three excellent races did Italian «Mascalzone Latino» with Vincenzo Onorato and his tactiction Adrian Stead take a significant step towards the Nordic Championship in the Farr 40 class at Hankø. The organizer Royal Norwegian Yacht Club under the race management of American Ken Legler managed to lay an excellent course under slightly shifty conditions, in light to medium north easterly wind. Class manager Geoff Stagg who was a keen observer todays racing commented on the excellent racing conditions saying that he felt the left hand side of the windward leg was slightly favoured at the beginning, with the right hand favoured towards the mark. While Vincenzo Onorato seemed to have a slight upwind speed advantage which he managed to capitalize on to gain him valuable low scoring points, (4th, 2nd and 1st in todays three races), his nearest competitors Wolfang Schaefer and Helmut Jahn also showed credible performance finishing well in every race. Home favourite Eivind Astrup who has had his mind fixed on organizing the event did have a tough start of the regatta, came through in he last race of the day, being second only to Onorato after the first beat, finishing in 7th position and climbing to 16th over all. The sailors have so far enjoyed the weather which admittedly in the like the Med., but sailing conditions have been challenging but excellent.
