Nordic Farr 40 Championship - 3rd Series European Circuit English Version

Day three. Legler calls it a day after just one race

Todays racing for the Farr 40 class at Hankø ended after one race where the initial leader «Struntje Light» got lost between two weather systems on the second beat and dropped to 21st, effectively putting Wolfgang Schaefer and his expert crew out of contention for the Norfic Championship. Vincenzo Onorato and his «Mascalzone Latino» won the race, his third race victory in the series. – It was a beautiful, terrible race, he told us afterwards. The opinion of many including class manager Geoff Stagg was however that the race should have been cancelled after the second beat, but PRO race officer Ken Legler, allthough admitting that there had been discussions among the race commettee, concluded that he did not want to call the race off after the first lap was completed in a fair manner. Onorato now holds a convincing 23 points lead over the winner of the first race, Helmut Jahn in «Flash Gordon»who is again four point ahead of the current European Champion, Massimo Mezzaroma in «Nerone». The regatta ends to maximum two races tomorrow, before the fleet heads off to Skagen for the fourth round on the European Circuit. Mikkel ThommessenPress Officer.
