Mezzaroma - Sodo Migliori's Nerone won the third series of Farr40 European Championship hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda - by a hair's breadth from the fellow italian Vincenzo Onorato on Mascalzone Latino. With both teams finishing equal on 15 points, it was Nerone's races win in the windy and rainy conditions two days earlier that gave her overall victory over Mascalzone Latino. For the third day running and the last of the third series, the Race Committee was able to complete two windward/leeward races although the instable weather conditions gave a lot of trouble to the organizers and the twleve teams in competition. Today the One Design fleet sailed two races providing plenty of action - with Joe Fly taking the first race and Mascalzone Latino dominating the last race, ahead of Fiamma and the german boat Struntje Light of Wolfgang Schaefer. Mezzaroma commented "We did really well on Day 1, today was Mascalzone Latino's turn, we tried to controll him and we almost succeeded. Today's first race conditions were quite strange for Sardinia - shifting winds and all the teams tried to make the best choices, we did much better in the last race when the wind became steady. Our next big event will be the Worlds in Newport where the americans are waiting for us with open arms...the best teams all over the world are going to be there so we'll do our best" Giovanni Maspero on Joe Fly also satisfied "We are always on fourth"smiling "we succeeded staying in competion with the best, we scored a first and a sixth. We did an excellent job and of course we also made mistakes. The moderate winds gave us trouble, we were doing better with a stronger breeze of 20/22 knots" At the end declaring " The truth is that it is a highly competitive class, it's enough to look at this year's new entries like Enfant Terrible who's doing visible progresses or to think that in today's first race we've been in seven at the finish line so it's just a matter of seconds " "The winner is the one doing less mistakes" commented Manfredo Toninelli on Mukka Express "and the more experienced teams are doing less. We think we are doing better with lighter winds. Here, in Sardinia we have never seen the sunshine unfortunately. But thinking we are still a new entry in this class we are satisfied with the overall. Our next event will be Mahon and we are not going to be there for tourism" The next event will be in Spain, from 13th to 16th June, Mahon is going to host the European Championship. Sardinia will host the next two important events in June: Sardia Rolex Cup from 5th to 10th - Porto Cervo and Audi Invitational 16th to 18th June - Porto Rotondo.
