Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino won the fifth edition of the Rolex Farr40 European Championship held this year for the first time in the Balearic island of Menorca, Mahòn after winning all the previous series, Saint Tropez, Capri and Porto Cervo. After eleven races Mascalzone Latino, Andrian Stead in the tactician's role won with just four points ahead TWT of Marco Rodolfi, tactician Tiziano Nava. Eight points further behind was Enfant Terrible of Gianluigi Serena with Paolo Cian calling the tactics. Fourth in the overall, Alinghi steered by Ernesto Bertarelli with Brad Butterworth calling the tactics for him. For Team Alinghi was a return to Farr 40 after winning the Worlds in 2001. "We are all most happy with the results. For me personally it is one of the most important victories as a helmsman " Vincenzo Onorato, Capitalia Team declared. The big surprise of the fourth series was the Italian boat Calvi of shot up the rankings in the Rolex Farr 40 European Championship with victories in two out of two races and the last ones on the Europeans. Calvi revelled in the light 10 knot north-easterly of the first race rounding first the top mark ahead of Cannonball and Fiamma extending to a winning margin of just 14 seconds, a really close lead proving how tightly - fought class Farr 40 is. " It has been a hard season, with lots of ups and downs but we are all glad that at the end we really got the measure of the waves. All the team have been expecting this and finally we can say we are ready for the Worlds " Carlo Alberini this season President of Farr 40 Class declared. More than 40 teams -- from Australia, US, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland -- are expected to compete this year.
